Number 20 of 52 Compelling Communicators: Tanya Gadsby

May 20, 2013

Tanya Gadsby is a graphic recorder. Her Linkedin profile describes that role as someone who creates conceptual maps of conversations LIVE during meetings & events. She actually draws maps of dialogue on large sheets of paper on the wall in view of everyone.

“When people see their words appear before them in concise graphics and text, they feel their thoughts are validated, and this creates a safe environment for dialogue to flow naturally. Graphic recording encourages people to build on ideas, explore concepts, and forge new clarity and understanding.”

Talk about compelling.

Here is a sample of her work:

I can quickly see what happened at this meeting without reading a lengthy report. I understand the key discussion areas in a visual, engaging way.

Tanya did a short video white board graphic for me to explain one of my conference speeches:

Way more interesting and informative than snippets of me giving the speech.

As our world gets more and more accustomed to six second videos, 12 second sound bites and 140 characters we will need to find ways to pack in more information in ways that keep people engaged. Graphic recording, infographics and compelling visuals will play an important role in our communications landscape.

An agenda for a meeting might set the tone for an enjoyable day:

Tanya has a bachelor of Fine arts, Theatre and Creative Writing. You can find out more about her work at drawingoutideas.ca
